Our proprietary M5 & M7 Maple shells are the foundation of all the drums we craft out of our Massachusetts factory. The shells are hand crafted with integrity using the highest quality maple veneer and built to produce optimal balance of attack, focus, and resonance.
We've further enhanced the powerful and punchy tone we've all come to know and love from SJC Custom Drums by customizing the shells by diameter. As the shells get bigger, so do the plies, offering easy tuning, a balanced feel, and tone full of attack, warmth, and the perfect amount of resonance around the entire kit. The increase in ply thickness means there are less plies and glue that make up the shell, leaving you with a powerful and sonically rich tone suitable for any style, gig or session.

Why you'll love them:
- Offers a complete balance both sonically and fundamentally as you move around the entire kit.
- Produces a large yet focused tone that is suitable for all genres of players: from jazz all the way to metal.
- The thicker vertical ply increases lower frequencies and the use of 5 or 7 plies + less adhesive balances the shell, creating a powerful and sonically rich tone.

The edges that we recommend for our shells are our SJC 45 degree bearing edge, as well as our vintage round over.
The 45 provides an incredible balance of resonance and attack, while the vintage round over (especially when combined with some of our maple re-rings) produces a warmer tone with heavy attack.
*To ensure precision of our bearing edge and the absolute best resonance, we make sure that the apex of the edge is cut on the thinner plies of the shell.
